Pecan Summer, Australia’s first Indigenous opera, comes from a very deep place, from genetic memory, from life’s experiences.

Short Black Opera is proud to present a brand new production Deborah Cheetham’s landmark work Pecan Summer. For one night only, in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House with direction by Cameron Menzies, 3D mapping design by Nicholas Tory from Ample Projects and visual design content by Indigenous artist Wayne Quilliam

Wiradjuri Soprano Shauntai Batzke joined Short Black Opera as a developing artist in 2009. Shauntai is a graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and was the proud recipient of the 2014 and 2015 Harold Blair Scholarship with the Dame Nellie Melba Opera Trust.

Green Room Award winning singer/songwriter Jessica Hitchcock is a charismatic and versatile performer. Jessica joined Short Black Opera company in 2010 for the premiere of Pecan Summer after graduating from the Conservatorium of Music High School.
